The Endless Ennui

     By Marilyn De Paula

The monotony of the day wears on and on.

From hour to hour, minute to minute, second to second,

I stare at the computer screen.

Will nothing ever happen?

Twiddle, twiddle, go my thumbs,

Ever searching for something to do.

Clickety, clack, search the internet

For something new to read.

Will this day never end?

Tick, tick, tock, goes the clock,

I count down the seconds until my release.

Four o’clock is finally here.

I am free…

Until tomorrow comes,

The endless ennui.
